"Right. And well worth it, Maurice. Just one thing I want to be sure of. Do we have Bill Adams fully insured?"

"Not as much as I'd like. He isn't interested in sex, he's never made a big loan, he lives fairly quietly. I haven't found the wedge yet."

"But he is very ambitious politically." Ciano stood up and began pacing in front of the picture window. "As campaign expenses mount we'll find ways of insuring him. It won't be hard to tie him to taking money from criminal sources. Give it some thought, Maurice."

"Sure. By the way, when this all happens there's going to be one hell of a panic in the streets. The addicts will be going insane."

Ciano smiled. "I've thought about that. By the time Adams busts this case we'll have the routes set up and working from the Orient through Mexico and California and into New York. That reminds me, I must tell Brad to scratch the hotel deal we were about to make in St. Croix."

"He'll be disappointed," D'Estang said cheerfully. "He's put a lot of work into that one including two trips."

"Then there's the matter of the half a million dollars. We can't use any of the family money for this. It will have to be generated out of our activities here."

"Larry Wolfmann's operation is getting ripe," Maurice replied helpfully.

"Yes. Just what I was thinking. Now, the next step is to set up a meeting with Sal. Take care of that for me as soon as possible."

"Check. And C.L.," he paused hesitantly, then, "when you're in the mood I'd like to discuss what we're doing in the termination section, as you call it."

Ciano frowned a moment. "Not now, Maurice. That is a necessity in our business that I regret, as you know, and now isn't the time to discuss it."

Ciano sighed deeply, walked over to his desk and pressed a button. A section of the wall slid back revealing the organ. He turned to Maurice and said, "I assume recruiting in that department is coming along."

"Doctor Wormsinger has two or three more prospects under observation. Real nutcakes."
